The winners of the Burda Fashion Start contest, the authors of the Sporty Chic collection, talked about the concept of their capsule and what the Russian fashion and industry lack.

The collection of the fall-winter 2016/17 season "Sporty Chic" was created on the verge of a conflict of different styles - business and sport. The combination of sporting details and elegant design creates an image that matches the latest fashion trends. Now, as never before, a woman began to lead an independent and active lifestyle, so she should always look presentable and at the same time comfortable. In the assortment of the collection there are some must-haves of the season recommended by BURDA magazine.
What inspired your collection?
Marina Ostrovskaya:
Initially, there was a goal for the achievement of which a certain source was chosen, on which I worked in a certain direction. Hence the “inspiration” to create a collection on the verge of a conflict of styles - business and sports.
Alexandra Tim:
The modern rhythm of life and people who are passionate about sports who want to look stylish and comfortable, but there is no time for this. For them, I wanted to specifically create a solution to the problem of "what to wear."
Why did you decide to take part in the Burda Fashion Start contest?
Marina Ostrovskaya:
Before, I did not participate in serious contests where I could compare my strengths with worthy competitors, but I always really wanted to. And so it happened that I had free time, and at that moment a contest appeared, to which I sent the sketches and almost unexpectedly became a participant. So what can I say, I was waiting for the right moment.
Alexandra Tim:
It is interesting to try your hand and gain experience, going all the way from creating a sketch to its embodiment and display.
What was the most difficult to work on the collection?
Marina Ostrovskaya:
Probably the most difficult was to cope with fear, not to have time to finish the collection on time. And it was also difficult for me to behave naturally in front of the camera while shooting.
Alexandra Tim:
Choosing the best option. Not always the best possible and not always the best. In time to release the perfectionist, but also to expel the victim: do not follow the path of least resistance, proceeding only from what we have, not considering the best and not achieving the task. It’s not so easy to find this balance while being in a team, but we were lucky with each other, we dealt with it “perfectly”!

When creating collections, what fabrics do you usually use?
Marina Ostrovskaya:
Not so often, I create collections, but if necessary, I try to choose the most pleasant for tactile sensations. These may not be completely natural fabrics, but nowadays, production progress allows us to create fabrics that sometimes can not be distinguished from natural ones until they say the composition, and they also can not always be accurately determined.
Alexandra Tim:
Suitable for goals and objectives for the implementation of the current image.
What three words would you describe your style? Why?
Marina Ostrovskaya:
Comfort, practicality, functionality - this is what should be in clothes besides beauty. Stylish clothes should be comfortable in the first place, like a second skin, otherwise fashionable clothes are obtained.
Alexandra Tim:
Dynamics. Comfort. Uniqueness. I’m running somewhere all the time, learning something and doing something. I value comfort, functionality and personality. It’s not very important for me what they think and how they evaluate me from the side, it is dear to me HOW I feel myself in this.

What are the fashion designers who influenced your work?
Marina Ostrovskaya:
During my studies, I worked as a consultant in the LeForm boutique on Dmitrovka. All the designers who sold there were my favorites.Especially the painted Dries Van Noten, the crazy Rei Kawakubo, the creepy Yoshi Yamamoto, the excellent Martin Margiela and the wonderful brand CP Company - all to some extent have become idols for me.
Alexandra Tim:
There are a lot of them regularly and they all regularly influence :))
What are the three most popular trends for the fall-winter season 2016/2017?
Marina Ostrovskaya:
I am not an ardent trend hunter, but, in my opinion, among the simple intelligentsia there is a trend not to stand out from the crowd. Even if there is a lot of money for expensive brands, it’s still better not to overdo it and try to find your original style.
Alexandra Tim:
Stripes, fringe, wide trousers.
Several images from the sewn collection included patterns from Burda. Choosing them, you probably were able to appreciate our extensive catalog of patterns! What three things from the catalog could you recommend to our readers as the most stylish and fashionable for the fall-winter 2016 season?
Marina Ostrovskaya:
Really a lot of patterns. The main criterion was a high level of difficulty. And in the end, it turned out a wonderful neoprene bomber, which everyone immediately became interested in. I also liked a large selection of oversized coats. And I also really wanted to try to sew some kind of dress, which is also in abundance.

What, in your opinion, is lacking in Russian fashion today?
Marina Ostrovskaya:
Development and time. It seems that fashion in Russia will soon finalize its mistakes and become an excellent role model.
Alexandra Tim:
Freedom from patterns.

What is your most ambitious creative goal?
Marina Ostrovskaya:
In her youth, she dreamed of creating her own fashion house, as great as Chanel or Dior, but now it seems impossible to be a difficult occupation, which simply does not have enough life. Therefore, I rejoice at the moments when small victories in professional development are obtained and I grow further.
Alexandra Tim:
Make a show / shoot a series of dance-style fashion clips as I am a choreographer by my main profession :) I am interested in creating iconic “products” combining different areas of activity.
I also want to add that I am a Graduate of the School-Studio at the GAANT them. I.A. Moiseeva. For 10 years I have been the head of my own studio M-Dance www.m-dance.ru
Fashion Design I study with Inga Kallagova on-line course.
